It is soluble in most organic solvents and has a boiling point of 77°C. 1-Chloro-3-methoxypropane reacts with copper oxide to form aldehydes and ethanolic solutions to produce phenols. It also reacts with methyl alcohol, tetrahydrofuran, and chlorine gas to form sulfides. 1-Chloro-3-methoxypropane has been shown to be oxidized by halogens such as chlorine atom and bromine atom to form chlorinated products. This chemical compound is used in the manufacture of acrylonitrile.
