(S)-(ˆ’)-2,2-Diphenyl-6,6-dimethoxy-4,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)bipyridine is a diphosphine ligand that can be used in palladium-catalyzed reactions. It is used as a prenylation agent to synthesize quinoline derivatives. It has been shown to catalyze the polymerization of β-unsaturated ketones with an isolated yield of 83%. The reaction rate is sensitive to the presence of electron withdrawing groups such as nitro groups and electron donating groups such as alkoxy groups. This ligand also has been used in asymmetric synthesis where it was found to be stable at high reaction temperatures and showed no signs of decomposition.
