3,5-Dibromo-N'-[(1E)-[2,5-dimethyl-1-(3-nitrophenyl)-1H-pyrrol-3-yl]methylidene]-4-hydroxybenzohydrazide (DBH) is a molecule with in vitro activity against herpes simplex virus isolates and tuberculosis. DBH inhibits the autophagic process by inhibiting the movement of kinesin along microtubules. This inhibition prevents the transport of cargo to lysosomes, leading to an accumulation of cellular contents that become toxic and lead to cell death. DBH also has the ability to encapsulate infectious viruses in its hydrophobic core, which may be useful for vaccine development.
