2-Iodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole is a chiral ligand that binds to bacterial ribosomes and inhibits the production of proteins. 2-Iodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole has been shown to bind monocationically to the adenine base in the ribosomal RNA, which inhibits the synthesis of proteins. 2-Iodo-1-methyl-1H-imidazole has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics, such as fluoroquinolones. The compound was found to have a wide range of applications in chemotherapeutic treatments for cancer, including cross coupling with boronic acids and supramolecular assemblies.
