    Ac-Phe-3,5-diI-Tyr-OH is a synthetic substrate that is an inhibitor molecule. It inhibits the proteolytic activity of pepsin and trypsin, which are enzymes secreted by the stomach to break down food. Ac-Phe-3,5-diI-Tyr-OH has been shown to inhibit the production of human serum amyloid A (HSA) in vitro. This molecule has a pH optimum of 8 and can be activated by acidic conditions. This compound contains a disulfide bond, which is necessary for the active site cleft in this type of enzyme inhibitor. The sequence may represent an enzyme inhibitor with a novel mechanism of action that has not been reported before.
