CAS:2-Chlorotropone is a nitro compound that contains a carbonyl group and an ionizable chlorine atom. It is a colorless, crystalline solid with a molecular weight of 149.2 g/mol. 2-Chlorotropone has been shown to react with sodium carbonate, picric acid, and tetroxide to form a yellow precipitate. It can be synthesized by the reaction of malonic acid with sodium hydroxide in methanol. The reaction product is then isolated by adding activated charcoal and filtering the solution through filter paper. 2-Chlorotropone also reacts with nucleophilic compounds such as water or alcohols to form esters or ethers respectively.
