It is an inhibitor of protease enzymes, which are responsible for the breakdown of proteins in the body. Erythro-N-Boc-L-3,5-difluorophenylalanine epoxide is also stereogenic and enantioselective. The stereogenic property means that it has two chiral centers and can exist in two forms that are mirror images of each other. Erythro-N-Boc--L--3,5--difluorophenylalanine epoxide is optically active because it rotates plane polarized light to the right or left when dissolved in water or organic solvents.
