It has been shown to be an excellent electrolyte for the production of dye-sensitized solar cells. 4-tert-Butylpyridine has been used in experiments on hydrogen bonding interactions, and it is also used for the structural analysis of nitrogen atoms. 4-tert-Butylpyridine is an important precursor to pyrazole rings, which are necessary for many reactions involving dyes and other compounds. One such reaction mechanism is the production of a dye-sensitized solar cell.
