5-O-feruloylquinic acid is a naturally occurring phenolic compound found in Chinese herbs. This compound has been shown to have anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, and may be used for the treatment of metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus. 5-O-Feruloylquinic acid has been shown to scavenge anion radicals and cause mitochondrial membrane depolarization in vitro. It also has significant interactions with mitochondrial membrane potential and chlorogenic acids. 5-O-Feruloylquinic acid is metabolized into 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid, which is a bioactive phenolic found in plants that may be responsible for its biological properties.
