It can be used to synthesize juvenoids, which are compounds that are structurally similar to steroids and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. 3-Methoxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one has been shown to be an effective diastereomer in the synthesis of protoberberines and synlett.
