Biotin tyramide is a growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of cells. It is used in vitro to detect viral RNA and as a model system for biological processes. Biotin tyramide binds to viral RNA and DNA, which are involved in polymerase chain reactions. It also can be used to identify cells by their expression of specific proteins and to measure the activity of phosphatases. Biotin tyramide has been shown to increase survival rates in patients with cervical cancer who have been treated with monoclonal antibodies. This drug also increases the production of neurotrophic factors, which may be beneficial for patients suffering from cancer or other diseases that affect the nervous system.
