It has been shown to be a functional agonist of the adrenergic receptor, and can be used for the treatment of diseases such as asthma. 2-(2-Nitrophenyl)pyridine is a potent agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors and beta-adrenergic receptors in human erythrocytes.
