3,3-Diphenylpropanaldehyde is a supplement that inhibits the activity of 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase and squalene synthase, enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis. This agent has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) in a dose-dependent manner. 3,3-Diphenylpropanaldehyde also inhibits the activity of neuraminidase, an enzyme that destroys sialic acid on glycoproteins and glycolipids. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind to the active site of the enzyme and prevent substrate binding. 3,3-Diphenylpropanaldehyde has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the production of fatty acids by cellular lipases in vitro.
