Methenolone acetate can also be used to treat the wasting syndrome in HIV/AIDS patients. This drug binds to the androgen receptor, inhibiting the production of gonadotropin hormones that regulate the synthesis of sex steroids. Methenolone acetate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of herpes simplex virus in cell culture. This drug is detectable in urine samples for up to 8 days after administration.
