CAS:2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acid is a white to yellow crystalline powder that has antibacterial activity. It has been shown that this compound inhibits the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acid is also active against some species of fungi and yeast. The mechanism of action is not known, but it may be due to inhibition of protein synthesis or cell wall synthesis. 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acid is insoluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, ether, and benzene. This compound is stable for up to two weeks when stored at room temperature in an airtight container under inert gas.
