2-Butyl-5-[methanesulfonamido]benzofuran is a synthetic chemical that has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of dronedarone, which is approved for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. This chemical also has properties that are useful in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, such as propoxy and tetrachloride. 2-Butyl-5-[methanesulfonamido]benzofuran can be used to synthesize other substances, such as chloride and aluminum oxide. 2-Butyl-5-[methanesulfonamido]benzofuran can be hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen chloride gas and 5-[methanesulfonyl]benzoic acid. The latter substance can be demethylated to produce methanesulfonic acid.
