It is used as a reagent for the synthesis of amides and esters, for the introduction of nitro groups into molecules, and for the preparation of nitroso compounds. p-Nitrobenzyl chloroformate has been shown to have synergistic interactions with glycol chitosan nanoparticles in cancer therapy. These nanoparticles are biocompatible polymers that can be loaded with anticancer drugs.
