4-Methylsulfonyl-2-nitrofluorobenzene is a nitroarene that may be used to regulate the cardiovascular system. It has been shown to reduce the dihedral angle between two nitro groups and thus change their conformation, from a reactive to a non-reactive state. The reactive form of 4-methylsulfonyl-2-nitrofluorobenzene can bind to the utrophin protein, which is involved in the regulation of muscle contraction. This binding can inhibit or stimulate muscle contraction depending on the concentration of 4-methylsulfonyl-2-nitrofluorobenzene.
