  • n-Acetyl-2-hydroxybenzamide

    CAS:
n-Acetyl-2-hydroxybenzamide is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits the production of prostaglandins. It is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. n-Acetyl-2-hydroxybenzamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro, including Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It also has inhibitory properties against fungi such as Candida albicans. The mechanism of action for this drug is not clear. It may act by interrupting the final step in bacterial porphyrin synthesis, which is an essential component of bacterial cell membranes. This would lead to the disruption of membrane integrity, which would lead to cell death by either lysis or osmotic shock.
