The compound is highly selective for the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) and has been shown to be active against the erythrocytic stages of Plasmodium falciparum, including chloroquine-resistant strains. 5-Bromo-N-cyclopropyl-2-thiophenecarboxamide does not interfere with human DNA synthesis or RNA transcription and has no adverse effects on animal liver function.
