It has been shown to inhibit RNA replication in vitro, and can be used as a potential treatment for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). 4-(1-Pyrrolidinyl)piperidine binds to a lysine residue of ribonuclease A, and prevents it from cleaving the RNA strand.
