1-Benzyl-3-Methylimidazolium Tetrafluoroborate is a hydrophobic anion that can be used as a stabilizing agent in pesticide formulations. It has been shown to have toxic properties and interaction energies with other compounds. 1-Benzyl-3-Methylimidazolium Tetrafluoroborate can be synthesized from the reaction of acetonitrile with chloride. The chemical was found to be an additive for solutions at temperatures below 20°C and its stability increases with temperature up to about 30°C. The compound is also effective in multi-walled carbon nanotube stabilization, which may be due to its interaction with the carbon surface, preventing aggregation of the nanotubes.
