CAS:3-Hydroxypropanoic acid is a fatty acid with a hydroxyl group. It can be found in synthetic pathways that produce glycerol, and is an intermediate in the production of antimicrobial peptides. 3-Hydroxypropanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi in vitro assays. This compound also inhibits the activity of enzymes such as malonic acid decarboxylase, which catalyzes the conversion of malonic acid to succinic acid. 3-Hydroxypropanoic acid is used as a model system for congestive heart failure because it has been shown to mimic some aspects of this condition by inhibiting mitochondrial function. The reaction mechanism involves inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation, leading to an accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduced ATP production.Formula:C3H6O3Color and Shape:Colorless Clear LiquidMolecular weight:90.08 g/mol3-Hydroxypropanoic acid
