5-Hexenyl Acetate

5-Hexenyl Acetate is a reactive, monolayer, damaged and ring-opening molecule that has been immobilized on a ruthenium complex. It has been used as an odorant binding agent and in metathesis reactions to produce functionalized organic acids. 5-Hexenyl Acetate also has functional groups such as carboxylate and organic acid groups. 5-Hexenyl Acetate reacts with imidazoline (a chemical compound) in the presence of a solid catalyst to produce a polymer called polyhexeneimine. This polymer is useful for immobilizing enzymes on surfaces, as well as for producing other polymers by ring-opening polymerization.

(4E,7Z)-4,7-Tridecadienyl acetate,a component of the sex pheromone was synthesized from 5-hexenyl acetate. CM of 5-decene with 5-hexenyl acetate is used to produce the insect pheromone.
