3-Hydroxy thalidomide is a drug that is used to treat cancer. It is an inhibitor of the ubiquitin-proteasome system and inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of prostate cancer cells in culture, as well as inhibiting the growth of rat liver microsomes. 3-Hydroxy thalidomide has been shown to be suitable for oral administration and it has a long half-life, making it suitable for treatment in patients who cannot tolerate other drugs. 3-Hydroxy thalidomide also inhibits the growth factor basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects.
