3-Pyrrolidinemethanol

Pyrrolidin-3-ylmethanol (P3M) is a cytotoxic agent that belongs to the group of quinolone antibacterials. It has been shown to be active against gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. P3M inhibits protein synthesis in these bacteria by binding to the ribosomes of 50S subunits. This drug also has a hydrophobic character which may account for its ability to penetrate cell membranes and cause DNA damage in cancer cells. P3M is an inhibitor of aromatase and has been shown to inhibit the production of progesterone and testosterone, which may account for its anti-estrogenic activity.

It is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dyestuffs.
