    Alpha-onocerin is a plant alkaloid that is isolated from the genus Onocerus. Alpha-onocerin has been shown to suppress toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression, which is an inflammatory receptor found on macrophages and dendritic cells. It also has an inhibitory effect on TLR2 and TLR9, which have been implicated in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. Alpha-oncerin demonstrates a high degree of efficacy against strains of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. The extract has been shown to be effective against some strains of Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains.
