1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid is a physiological amino acid that belongs to the group of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). It is a cyclic peptide that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against several bacterial strains. 1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid has also been shown to increase locomotor activity and prevent the development of renal cell cancer in experimental models. This compound is structurally related to cycloleucine, which has been shown to induce intramolecular hydrogen bonding with histidine residues in proteins. In addition, 1-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid can form a stable complex with basic proteins such as albumin and alpha -fetoprotein, which may be due to its high affinity for these substances.
