It is an endothelin receptor antagonist that binds to the endothelin receptor and blocks binding of endothelin, which prevents activation of the endothelin signaling pathway. 3,4-(Methylenedioxy)thiophenol is a potent antagonist of the endothelin receptor subtype A and has been shown to improve ventricular function in animal models with chronic heart failure.
