    CAS:
UDP-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine is a nucleotide that is found in the cell membrane of Gram-positive bacteria. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. UDP-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine has also been shown to be a substrate for glycosylation enzymes, which are involved in the production of glycogen, chitin, and other polysaccharides.
