Ethyl 2-methyl-4-pentenoate is a chemical compound that can be found in the aroma of cheese. It is used as an intermediate for polyvinyl chloride and as a precursor for making polyvinyl acetate. This chemical is also used in analytical chemistry to measure the concentration of chloride ions. Ethyl 2-methyl-4-pentenoate has been shown to bind to collagen and chemically react with polyvinyl chloride, forming a complex with a high boiling point. The endpoints are determined by measuring the intensity of the mass resonance signal.

Applications Ethyl 2-Methyl-4-pentenoate, can be used as flavoring and fragrant agent. It can also be used for the synthesis of Phthalazines and Pyridazino-aromatics.
