CAS:4,6-Di(tert-butyl)benzene-1,3-diol (BHT) is a compound that is used as an antioxidant to prevent oxidation and degradation of fats. It protects the body from free radicals by acting as a scavenger for reactive oxygen species. BHT can be synthesized from benzene and butanol in an asymmetric synthesis process that uses copper chromite as a catalyst. The reaction is conducted at room temperature with an acid catalyst such as trifluoroacetic acid or aluminium chloride. The product is purified by distillation and then analyzed using gas chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. This analysis reveals that BHT has a molecular form of radical with two unpaired electrons.Formula:C14H22O2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:222.33 g/mol4,6-Di-(tert-butyl)benzene-1,3-diol
