    1,3-Phenylenediaminesulfate (1,3-PDAS) is a colorant that is used to produce pigments, dyes, and paints. 1,3-PDAS is prepared by neutralizing the 1,3-phenylenediamine with sulfuric acid. The color of the compound depends on the pH value of the solution. 1,3-PDAS can be used as a pigment in organic pigments such as alizarin blue and red lead. It also has been used in painting materials and paper making processes. In addition to its use as a pigment or paint additive, 1,3-PDAS has been used for water treatment and as an analytical reagent for measuring amines in organic chemicals. This compound is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone. 1,3-PDAS can be crystallized from its hydrolysate by evaporating the solvent.
