5-Bromopentanenitrile is an organic solvent that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and other chemicals. The functional theory of 5-Bromopentanenitrile suggests that it has a cleavage activity. This property may be due to its ability to bind to the phenyl group and form a covalent bond with two alkyl groups. 5-Bromopentanenitrile can also be used as an alkylation agent for organic synthesis reactions. It has been shown to have population growth activity on cultured cells and causes cancer in animals. The compound is used in preparative high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the isolation of compounds from natural sources.
