    2-Hydroxy-5-methoxy-3-undecyl-[1,4]benzoquinone (2HMBQ) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It inhibits the activity of certain viruses, such as hepatitis C virus and cancerous cells by stabilizing the mitochondrial membrane potential. 2HMBQ also prevents cancer cell proliferation by inhibiting the synthesis of collagen. 2HMBQ has been shown to inhibit colorectal adenocarcinoma in mice and human carcinoma cell lines in vitro. This compound was also shown to be effective at treating epimastigotes, which are protozoans that cause African sleeping sickness.
