CAS:1-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)piperazine (HPP) is a drug that is metabolized by the liver cytochrome P450 system. It inhibits the oxidation of coumarin derivatives and facilitates their coupling with hydroxyl groups, which results in the formation of 1-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)piperazines. HPP has been shown to inhibit hepatic cytochrome P450 in humans, as well as mouse liver microsomes. This inhibition can be reversed by adding chemical inhibitors such as phenobarbital or aminopyrine. HPP also catalyzes glutaminyl cyclase to form glutaminyl amino acids, and is involved in the production of heme, which may be due to its ferroelectric properties.
