This material can be synthesized by the reaction of sodium acetate with cadmium oxide, which produces cadmium acetate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide. The coordination geometry of this compound is octahedral, with a Cd-O bond length of 1.7 Å and a Cd-Cd distance of 2.3 Å.
