Potassium carbonate, anhydrous, 99%
CAS:Potassium carbonate has a wide range of industrial and research applications. The major use of potassium carbonate is the manufacture of chemicals, fertilizers, soap and glass. It is used as a drying agent for solvents especially if there are traces of acids present, and as a scavenger of acids produced in organic synthesis. It is used as a buffering agent during the production of wine. It is also used as a fire suppressant in extinguishers. In organic synthesis, it is an extensively used reagent for the alkylation and arylation reactions on carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen centres. It is also used in aldol condensation, Michael reaction, acylation, Wittig reaction, Knoevenagel reaction, elimination reaction, epoxide opening, cyclization, metal-catalyzed cross coupling reaction, hydration, and a wide array of reactions. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. CAS:Applications Potassium Carbonate is a common chemical reagent used in various organic reactions. It is used, for example, in the synthesis of Diazoxon (D416890); the oxidized form of Diazinon (D416880) which is an organophosphate insecticide. Diazoxon is shown to be a more potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. References Lazarevic-Pasti, T. D., et al.: J. Electroanal. Chem., 692 (2013); Pasti, T. L., J. Environ. Protect. CAS:It may be used in pharmaceutical laboratories as a drying agent or as a source of potassium. It is also used in fire extinguishers, to make soap, glass and to soften water. Aqueous potassium carbonate plays an important role in carbon dioxide absorption promoted by piperazine. It is also essential for the absorption of carbon dioxide promoted by boric acid. It is also useful for the synthesis of azoles and diazines. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. CAS:Potassium carbonate is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It is used as a buffer in aqueous solutions and as an ingredient in baking powder. Potassium carbonate reacts with phosphorus pentoxide to form potassium phosphate, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. The solubility of the product increases with increasing temperature. The solubility of potassium carbonate decreases with decreasing pH, which may be due to an increase in the concentration of hydroxide ions. Potassium carbonate has been shown to inhibit the production of histamine from mast cells and prevent allergic symptoms. This drug also has been shown to have an effect on angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity and receptor activity for group P2 prostaglandins.Formula:K2CO3Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:138.21 g/molRef: 3D-FP158262
