CAS:3-Ethyloctane is a chemical analysis which is used to measure the acidity of fatty acids. Fatty acids are acidic, so 3-ethyloctane will react with them and turn into 3-ethylhexanoic acid. The reaction products can be analyzed on an on-line gas chromatograph to measure the amount of 3-ethylhexanoic acid produced by the reaction. The endophytic fungus, Fusarium oxysporum, was found to produce 3-ethyloctane in its aerial mycelium. This fungus also produces volatile organic compounds that have been shown to inhibit aluminium corrosion and promote plant growth in a kinetic study. The pentane solvent is also used in this study as an extraction agent for the aromatic hydrocarbons generated by the fungus. The irradiation of pentane has been shown to increase its solubility in water and decrease its boiling point, which may be useful for purifying 3-ethyloctane from the endophyteFormula:C10H22Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:142.28 g/mol
