CAS:4-Chloro-3-methylphenol is a disinfectant used to treat wastewater. It reacts with the water and produces 4-chlorophenol, nitrite, and chlorine gas. The reaction mechanism is as follows: 4-chloro-3-methylphenol + H2O = 4-chlorophenol + HOCl + NO Benzalkonium chloride can act as a catalyst for the reactions of 4-chloro-3-methylphenol with water. The reaction between the two compounds produces a biocidal agent that is effective against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Whole cell recordings have shown that 4-chloro-3-methylphenol inhibits ryanodine receptor activity in rat cardiac myocytes. This inhibition leads to cytosolic calcium release and surface methodology has shown that 4-chloro-3 methylphenol is toxic to cells. Toxicity studies have also shown that this compound has genotoxic activity in bacteriaFormula:C7H7ClOPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:142.58 g/mol
