It has been shown to be effective at preventing the corrosion of iron, copper, and aluminum when exposed to an acidic environment. 2-Furfurylthio-3-methylpyrazine also has potentiodynamic polarization properties and has been found to be adsorbed on the surface of iron oxide particles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies have shown that it is possible for 2-furfurylthio-3-methylpyrazine to form a monolayer on the surface of an electrochemical cell.
