Zinc carbonate hydroxide
CAS:Zinc carbonate hydroxide is a chemical compound that is used in the manufacture of detergents. It is also used as an antimicrobial agent, with a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria and fungi. Zinc carbonate hydroxide can be synthesized by combining zinc oxide and sodium carbonate, which react to form zinc carbonate hydroxide and water. The reaction mechanism for this process has been studied using FT-IR spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). FT-IR has shown that zinc oxide reacts with sodium carbonate to produce zinc carbonate hydroxide and water. EIS has shown that the activation energy for this process is 12.7kJ/mol. The chemical stability of ZnCO3·xH2O has also been studied using FT-IR spectroscopy, where it was found that the compound was stable at pH values between 5-8 but hydrolyzed at pH values above 8.
