CAS:Diethyl 1,4-dihydroxynaphthalene-2,3-dicarboxylate is a glycoside that has been reported to have anti-tumor and anti-bacterial properties. It has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice and also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA and preventing transcription. Diethyl 1,4-dihydroxynaphthalene-2,3-dicarboxylate is used as an adjuvant therapy for the treatment of primary sclerosing cholangitis. The efficacy of this drug is enhanced by the presence of bile acids. This drug also has a basic structure that can be broken down into two components: naphthoquinone and glucose. The naphthoquinone component is responsible for its bactericidal activity while the glucose component is responsible for its hemolytic activity.
