Leuco gentian violet
CAS:Leuco gentian violet is an organic compound that is used as a dye in the treatment of wastewater. It is also used as a stain for bacteria, fungi, and viruses by both light and electron microscopy. The optimum concentration for leuco gentian violet to act as a bactericide is between 0.5-2mg/ml. Leuco gentian violet has been shown to inhibit the growth of rat liver microsomes at concentrations of 1-10μg/ml and to have an IC50 of 8μg/ml. Leuco gentian violet has also been shown to be carcinogenic in rats when administered orally or through injection, with carcinogenic potential at doses greater than 10mg/kg body weight. The reaction solution can be detected using a trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) flow assay, which can be followed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and electrochemical detection methods.
