2-Methyl-4-quinolinol
CAS:2-Methyl-4-quinolinol is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of wastewater. It is able to oxidize sulfides, thiosulfates, and thiocyanates into sulfates and nitrates. The oxidation process is catalyzed by the hydroxyl group of 2-methyl-4-quinolinol. Under anaerobic conditions, 2-methyl-4-quinolinol can also react with 4-hydroxyquinoline to form 2-(2'-hydroxyethyl)quinoline. This reaction proceeds through intramolecular hydrogen transfer from the hydroxyl group of 2-methyl-4-quinolinol to the nitrogen atom of 4-hydroxyquinoline. In addition, 2-(2'-hydroxyethyl)quinoline can be formed by recombination of 2 methyl 4 quinolinol with sodium salts or bacterial strain.
