4-Bromobutylboronic acid is an antiviral agent that inhibits the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It blocks the syncytium formation by binding to the purine base of HIV. The EC50 values for 4-bromobutylboronic acid against HIV-1 and HIV-2 are 0.06 μM and 0.08 μM, respectively. 4-Bromobutylboronic acid also inhibits other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1, vesicular stomatitis virus, and influenza A virus.
