    2-Chloro-5-nitrophenol (2-CN) is a chemical that is used as an intermediate in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals. It can also be used as a chemical reagent for the synthesis of other chemicals, such as malonic acid. 2-CN reacts with chlorine gas to form chlorinated phenols, which are then hydrolyzed to form carbon dioxide and water. The reaction rate depends on the concentration of reactants and temperature. A kinetic study has shown that 2-CN is eliminated from the body at a rate of 0.0095% per hour. The elimination rate of 2-CN can be determined by measuring the concentration of 2-CN in urine samples using a chromatographic method.
