This polymer can be used in the production of thin films or as a coolant. It also has the ability to dissolve polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol and propylene glycol and liquefy these solvents. 1-(3-Hydroxypropyl)pyrrolidin-2-one is produced by the reaction of 3-hydroxypropyl pyrrolidine with formaldehyde.
