1-Iodopentane is a fatty acid that is used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It has shown to be effective at relieving symptoms of the disease, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, and has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the patient's quality of life. 1-Iodopentane is believed to work by reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. This drug also has been shown to relieve symptoms of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and hepatic impairment. 1-Iodopentane may be administered orally or intravenously due to its low solubility in water. The drug binds with reactive hydroxyl groups on amyloid proteins, which are involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease, and converts them into stable products that are not harmful to the body.
