Diethyl Diselenide is a chemical reagent that can be used to synthesize selenium compounds. It reacts with metal carbonyls, such as chromium carbonyl, to produce selenides. The reaction occurs in the form of a liquid phase reaction and produces hydrogen gas, which is released from the solution. Diethyl Diselenide has been shown to react with light emission and crystalline structures, which are both related to its coordination chemistry. The hydroxyl group on the molecule makes it soluble in nonpolar solvents and gives it optical properties that can be observed through light emission.
